NUJ urges Bauchi to pay journalists weigh-in allowances

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has appealed to Bauchi state government to pay weigh-in allowances to working journalists in the state.

National President of the union, Comrade Abdulwaheed Odusile, made thisappeal yesterday during the opening ceremony of the Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting of the union held at Zaranda Hotel, Bauchi. According to him, the union had facilitated the approval and implementation of the weighin allowances in several states, urgingthe state government to also replicate same in the state.

The National President, who opined that journalists are agents ofchange, urged them not to report anybody who makes hate speechescapable of destabilising the peace and unity of the nation.

Also speaking, the state Governor, Mohammed Abubakar, represented by the state Head of Civil Service, Liman Bello, thanked the NUJ for choosing the State to hold the meeting asking the participants to discuss critical national issues during the meeting. He said the state government gives priority attention to the mediasector, adding that the state television and radio stations are currently being digitalised. Others who delivered goodwill messages at the event were the state Commissioner of Information, Umar Ibrahim Sade, and the Emir of Dass, Usman Bilyanu Othman among others.
