Nurses set to join JOHESU strike

Nurses, under the aegis of National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), have said they would join the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) in the upcoming industrial action slated for September 21, 2017.

Briefing newsman yesterday in Abuja, President of the Association, Comrade Abdulrafiu Adeniji, said the nurses have expressed sadness over the state of the health sector, especially the moribund state of health infrastructure.

He noted that the lack of equipment and Medical consumables in all the health facilities in the country, have affected the delivery of quality Health Care to the Nigerian citizens.‎

“The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) met and discussed exhaustively on issues bordering on Nigeria health care services, state of infrastructure, Nigeria health care policies and management, Nigeria security matters, the nursing profession, the welfare of her members.

“The leadership of NANNM states expressly that it is in agreement with all JOHESU’s positions on the recent seven-day ultimatum, given to the federal government to accede to all its lingering demands dated back to 2012.

Part of the demands made by the association is that consultant nurses be also appointed according to laid down principles.

“The leadership viewed with great concern that the Federal Ministry of Health is not living up to expectation by not appointing Nurse Consultants in accordance with the laid down principles, and in line with National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) judgement.”

They further called on the Federal Ministry of Health to address the issue without further delay.
