NWFL: Rivers Angels pip Robo in Super 6 opener

Rivers Angels began their Nigeria Women Football League Premiership Super 6 campaign with a 2-0 win over FC Robo Queens inside the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba on Tuesday.

Goals from Chiamaka Okwuchukwu and Adaobi Okah were all the seven-time Champions needed to beat the Emmanuel Osahon led side.

Falconets star Okwuchukwu scored in the 37th minute after receiving a through pass from Alvin Dah-Zossu before firing home a scorching effort from a tight angle.

Okah and another Falconet Blessing Okpe were second half substitutes and both combined to double the lead in the 79th minute. Okpe made a delivery into the box and Okah was at the right place to slot home from close range.

Head Coach, Edwin Okon after Tuesday’s win said it was very important for the team to secure a win in their opening game.

“The players were in a very high spirit today and knew how important it was for the team to get a win. In every competition, the first game matters a lot. You just have to take advantage of the opportunity and take it like it was a final.

“Football is not one plus one, so you have to give every game same approach regardless of what result you must have gotten before now. The target will always be to win.

“I cannot complain about the playing turf, despite the heavy downpour, we still had a good game and I’m proud of my girls,” he added.
