Nyako, lawmakers resolve face-off

Fresh facts emerged yesterday showing that the face-off between Adamawa state Governor Murtala Nyako, his deputy Bala Ngillari and some lawmakers in the state may come to an end following the swearing-in of 36 Development Area administrators that were earlier rejected by the governor.

The swearing-in was conducted minutes after the governor arrived in Yola, the state capital, from Abuja where he had held a closed door meeting with the lawmakers led by the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
It would be recalled that Nyako’s failure to endorse the list of the Development Area administrators was part of the issues that degenerated to the impeachment move against him.
The swearing-in of the administrators was believed to be in fulfilment of the agreement arrived at in Abuja between the governor and the lawmakers.

Also, Nyako used the occasion to reward some of his loyalists who stood behind him as the impeachment move against him lasted. They included the former Secretary of the PDP, Mr. P.P. Elisha, whose name was earlier rejected by the lawmakers as a commissioner nominee, and was instantly sworn in as the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Government Affairs.
The development was seen as a subtle move by the governor to reduce the over-bearing influence of his Chief of Staff, Abdulrahaman Abbah Jimeta, who was believed to have played double standards during the impeachment saga.

While swearing in the Development Area administrators, four Permanent Secretaries and a special adviser at a ceremony at Government House, Yola, Nyako urged them to live up to expectations by discharging their duties diligently.
Responding on behalf of the other appointees, Mr. Peneas Elisha, Mr Hassan Musa and Mrs Janet Eric, thanked the governor for the appointment and promised to do their best in justifying the confidence reposed in them.
