Nyanya FRSC decries bad roads

Th e Unit Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nyanya Command, Assistant Corps Commander Michael Arinzeagu, has revealed that the greatest headache they were facing was that of the bad roads scattered all over the place. He made the disclosure recently while fi elding questions from our reporter shortly after a fi eld operation on the Nyanya route. “Our greatest headache and challenge has been the bad roads which we have been pleading with the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to put in order,” he said.

He also decried being understaff ed in the unit and asked for more hands. According to him, it is necessary for the public to understand that they control vehicular movement on the roads, hence should not always be blamed concerninghuman behaviors “Th e work of road safety is every body’s business and should not be left to us alone; we can only deploy our men when there is an emergency situation on the road involving other security and Para-military agencies; but they are not sent to go and supervise them.

“We create free-fl ow of traffi c and we have been doing everything possible to ensure free-fl ow and to check people’s vehicles; even though they continue to say that accident is not their portion but what we intend to achieve is for road users to be careful when using the road and to be patient. “We are working 24 hours as the situation is coming we are handling it; we give kudos to FERMA for their eff orts even though they claimed the federal government did not release money to them in time; something still has to be done along the Sharp Corner axis and the spot in front of Building Materials, Mararaba.” Arinze recalled that there was no need rushing FERMA when constructing work was going on around a bad spot at Nyanya Gwandara on Abuja-Keffi expressway because they needed to carry out a thorough job which according to him they did and people were enjoying today.
