NYCN berates Rivers govt. insists Bani is recognised state chairman

… Says NYCN not state property
The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has berated the Rivers state government over a press statement attributed to Special Adviser to the state governor, Nyesom Wike on Security Matters, Victor Dennis Ekaro and insisted that Comrade Nwisabari Bani is its elected state chairman.
Ekaro had on Wednesday in a statement claimed one Chijioke Ihunwo is the Rivers state government recognised NYCN state Chairman.

However, NYCN President, Amb Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, in a statement Thursday described Ekaro’s statement as “ridiculous, misleading, baseless, utterly irresponsible, a pure display of ignorant and gravely senseless, more so as it is most regrettably coming from someone who claims to represent the Rivers state governor on security matters”.
Amb. Sukubo also urged the public to discountenance their claims as nothing but “a continuation of the deliberate attempt to course disaffection and division among Rivers State Youths for cheap political gains. But they will not succeed by the power of God.
The President state unequivocally that “in line with National Youth Policy 2019 as amended and the NYCN constitution 2018 as amended the apex youth body in Nigeria, NYCN is an independent body and not a property of the federal government, state government and any politicians.
He also described as surprising that an acclaimed appointee of a state government will on behalf of the state, claim ownership, promote and even appoint oldmen, political thugs as leaders of NYCN in Rivers State. “This is a total display of ignorant and total disregard for laws that set up the NYCN as the apex youth body in Nigeria, he said..
The statement partly read ” for the avoidance of doubt, NYCN state that Comrade Nwisabari Bani in accordance with its constitution 2018 as amended was duly elected as the substantive Chairman of Rivers State Chapter on 21st of March 2021 and was later elected Public Relations Officer of the NYCN 36 States Chairmen Forum.
“The Rivers State Chapter election, where Comrade Bani and others were elected, was observed by officials of the Federal Ministry of Youths, Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Youth and Students Matters, Nigeria Police, Department of State Security  (DSS), NYCN State Chairmen and Officials from the NYCN headquarters. Consequently, the results were signed by all these observers.
“On this note, Comrade Bani remains the only recognised elected Chairman of NYCN, Rivers State Chapter. Rivers Youths, South-South Youths, NYCN Headquarters and Nigeria youths know this.
“NYCN caution the Rivers State Government to call his appointee to order, not to meddle in the leadership of the NYCN Rivers state chapter and not to destabilise the relative peace that the Governor, His Excellency, Nyesom Wike is working tirelessly to sustain in the state.
“It is unfortunate that someone who is supposed to be well informed, especially as a special adviser to the governor on security matter is a chief purveyor of information that can lead to break down of law and order in the state. Someone with this character should not be seen close to any governor, the governor should as a matter of urgency and in the interest of peace sack him.
“I urge the youth-friendly Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike to give NYCN State Chapter under the leadership of Comrade Bani all necessary support. This is important for meaningful youth participation, engagement and empowerment for impactful development in the state.
“While I charge the Security agencies in Rivers state to arrest anyone or group of individuals who illegally parade themselves as leaders of NYCN in the state. I urge the general public to be wary of impostors like one Chijioke Ihunwo and his likes who are out to mislead and milk the members of the public of their hard-earned resources.
“Finally, I urge members of the NYCN Rivers state chapter to remain calm in the face of this provocative statement attributed to one Victor Dennis Ekaro. And charged them to continue to support the state government for meaningful development”.
