NYCN to ICPC: Make your operations professional

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has charged the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) to embrace professionalism in the discharge of its duties.

In a statement issued and signed by National Publicity Secretary, Akoshile Muktar, and Comrade Adedamola Olugbode, Vice President, after its emergency meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, the leadership of the association bemoaned the way and manner, the ICPC conducts it affairs.

According to NYCN, the Council was concerned about the way the anti-graft institution has unilaterally turned itself into a cog in the wheel of progress towards a regime of digital broadcasting in Nigeria.

“It is rather curious that an agency of government would be working at cross purposes against the noble objective of the President Muhammadu Buhari government who is working assiduously and investing huge sums of money not only to make the Nigerian economy sufficiently diversified, but to also engage our teeming unemployed youth in productive endeavors,” the NYCN stated.

The council which flays the prosecution of the chairman of Pinnacle Communications and the DG of NBC, Mallam Ishaq Moddibo Kawu, described it as mere persecution and jamboree.

Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and the Chairman of Pinnacle Communications Limited, alongside others is embroiled in alleged diversion of funds.

The group which pride itself the Leadership of over 80 million Nigerian youth added: “The Digital Switch Over is one such programme that the government made a priority from very early in its first tenure, due to the capacity of the broadcasting industry to provide employment for our populace.

“It was against this backdrop that NYCN resolved that the ICPC discontinue forthwith the jamboree prosecution and persecution of the chairman of Pinnacle Communications and the DG of NBC.

NYCN has therefore call on the Presidency to set up an independent panel of inquiry to investigate the matter, saying that the people behind the orchestrated plot to sabotage Nigeria must be unmasked.

While restating its unflinching support for the current administration, the group condemned any form of witch-hunt, insisting that time to join President Buhari in building a more resilient economy is now.
