NYG: Defending champions Delta sends ‘whooping’ 400 athletes to Ilorin

Delta state has vowed to win in 34 different sports at the 2019 National Youth Games (NYG) taking place inside Univsersity of Ilorin (UNIlorin) Kwara state with over 400 athletes representing the oil-rich state.

Executive Chairman, Delta State Sports Commission, (DSSC), Chief Tonobok Okowa, stated this in Asaba while speaking with journalists over the state contingent’s preparation.

Chief Tonobok, who noted that the completion of Stephen Keshi stadium has stepped up sporting activities in Asaba, the state capital, promised that Delta state would come top at the National Youth Games.

Delta state won the overall best at the last edition.

“Anything less than first position is not winning and we are prepared to win,” he said.

He, however, expressed fear age cheating, and called for proper screening in order to ensure that ineligible athletes were not allowed to participate.

Chief Tonobok charged journalists who would cover the Youth Games to ensure adequate coverage of the events.

Delta state has won all the previous editions of the games which commenced in 2012.
