NYG: Team Kaduna maul Nasarawa 6-1 in hockey

Team Kaduna boys hockey side walloped their Nasarawa counterpart 6-1 on Thursday to further their chance of retaining their gold medal at the 5th National Youth Games ongoing at the University of Ilorin.

The boys hockey defending champions had earlier defeated the Niger state hockey team 4-0, while the Team Kaduna hockey girls played a goalless draw with Delta state girls after defeating their Nasarawa counterparts 2-0.

Secretary of the Kaduna State Hockey Association, Yusuf Abdullahi said that the hockey fixture at the game is a round robbin. “Both of our teams are doing well with the females winning one and drawing two, while the males are yet to lose, as they battle Ekiti in their third match.

Team Kaduna’s football team were no match for their Edo state counterparts as they lost their quarterfinal tie 0-3 to crash out of the Games. Team Kaduna football coach, Nasiru Chiji has attributed his boys’ loss to the screening out of seven of his players due to over age.

“We were only left with no option than to use the available players though we have launched a protest on two of our opponents players who were not properly registered,” Chiji said.

Team Kaduna is gradually steamrolling towards medal zone in team sports. In volleyball, Team Kaduna boys maintained 100% performance after defeating Delta state 2-0 (25-11, 25-7). The Kaduna boys had earlier defeated State of Osun and IMO state boys teams 2-0 each.

The Team Kaduna volleyball girls however recorded mixed results as they defeated Team Delta girls in two straight sets 2-0 (25-16, 25-22), before losing to Anambra girls 2-1.
