NYSC: 2,759 for orientation course in FCT

A total of 2,759 corps members were Thursday sworn-in for the 2019 Batch B Stream 1 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), comprising 1, 728 females and 1,031 males.

Performing the swearing in ceremony at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Kubwa, Abuja, the FCT Chief Judge, Justice Ishaq Bello, represented by Justice Semira Bature, admonished the corps members to be patriotic in the discharge of their duties during the service year.

Speaking earlier, FCT Permanent Secretary, Sir Chinyeaka Ohaa, said he was happy with reports that the corps members have been abiding by camp rules and implored them to be worthy ambassadors even after the three weeks orientation course.

He said: “This swearing in ceremony marks your formal enlistment into the NYSC. You are now one of the major vanguards of national unity and integration and have therefore joined the league of those who make things happen. Henceforth, others will look up to you for solution to problems of our great country. I therefore urge you to comfort yourselves in a

disciplined and well behaved manner, considering the fact that you are agents of positive change and future leaders of this great nation.”

Also speaking, FCT NYSC coordinator, Hajiya Walida Saddique, said that security measures have been put in place to ensure a hitch free orientation exercise and for the corps members to exploit the opportunities of SAED programmes for their individual development and economic emancipation.

“The NYSC orientation programme is a necessary bridge to cross, as the swearing in exercise is a cardinal ritual that must be performed by mobilized youths. Many programmes have been tailored to arouse the spirit of leadership in our corps members, as well as to raise critical entrepreneurs that will give our nation’s economy not just a first lift, but also within global trends.”
