NYSC coordinator urges corps members to maximise SAED training

Gombe state coordinator, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr David Pwanidi Markson, has urged the 2019 Batch “B” Stream II corps members deployed to the state to take advantage of the free ten days skill acquisition training in the camp.

This was contained in a press statement signed and made available to journalists in Gombe by the state public relation officer, Margaret Dakama on Monday. He said the programme has created entrepreneurs and employers of labour, as corps members are exposed to the twelve set skills with sub-sets for self-reliance.

He said, with the dearth of employment opportunities in the country, the NYSC introduced the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED)

programme into the orientation course contents in 2012.

“The ten-day skill acquisition on-camp training will expose you to skills like cosmetology, information and communication technology, culture and tourism, food processing and preservation, agro-allied, construction, environment and leatherwork among other skills.

“Time has passed for dependence on government for white-collar jobs, the ball is in your court to learn a skill or two in other to augment your allowance and be employers of labour,” he said.

Also speaking during the opening ceremony of the Skill Acquisition on-camp training, the Head of SAED NYSC Gombe, Mrs Nkiru Francisca Mmadumbu, urged Corps members to say no to dependence on government.

It would be recalled that the Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier-General Shaibu Ibrahim has given the go-ahead to commence the post-camp training at the Integration SAED centre; an edifice donated by Access Bank Plc for use in the Northeast zone.

According to the statement, the training would be in batches; in order to enable corps members within the Northeast to gain more experience through the post-camp training expected to last for ten days, as corps members are expected to continue with the post-camp training during the process of primary assignment.
