NYSC lists conditions for traveling permission to corps members

The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has warned employers to always follow the procedure of the scheme and avoid granting traveling permission to corps members.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2019 Batch ‘A’ Stream 11 Orientation Course of corps members at the permanent orientation camp, Ede, on Monday, Osun state coordinator, Mr Adegoke Ayodele, stated that no corps members should travel without the approval of NYSC Secretariat.

He explained that the steps became necessary so as to avoid reoccurrence of past experience that have been witnessed by the scheme.

He said, “It should be clear that no employer of corps members should give traveling permission to corps members without recourse to the NYSC Secretariat.

“Corps employers should know that applications for traveling by corps members should be recommended by him/her to the NYSC Secretariat for final approval by the state coordinator.

“This is to ensure adequate monitoring of our corps members. Let me emphasize that our decision is not to disrespect our honourable corps employers but for them to cooperate with us with a view to lessen risks associated with incessant journeys by corps members.

In his address, Osun state Governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola, advised the corps members to be committed to the scheme and the nation.

He promised that his administration will do everything in its capacity to ensure safety and good living of the corps members.

“I want to assure you that the government is very passionate about you and that is why it keeps coming up with programmes and initiatives to help you actualize your dreams and harness fully the potentials that is deeply rooted in you as graduate youths.

“I want you to embrace every initiative of government geared towards providing an enabling environment for you to thrive and bloom.

“I want to urge you to be committed to the scheme and to our nation. Do only things capable of promoting peace and unity in the communities where you are posted to. Do not look down on the people of your host communities.”
