The National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) has explained that it has awarded certificates to 1,117 corps members who completed their mandatory national service in Bauchi state successfully, just as it withheld those of 16 members that had disciplinary cases.
State coordinator of the scheme, Mr. Nuhu S. Kwaghe, disclosed this yesterday during the passing out ceremony of the hundreds of the Batch ‘A’ corps members in Bauchi.
“Out of the 1, 137 Batch ‘A’ corps members that served in the state, 1, 117 are to receive their certificates, while 16 had disciplinary cases,” he said.
Kwaghe noted that whatever their goals and ambitions were, the experience they had acquired during this one year of national service have equipped them sufficiently to succeed in life and make positive contribution to the country’s growth and development.
In his remarks, the President Goodluck Jonathan, who described the Scheme as “a true symbol of national unity,” and that “bringing together young people from various institutions and diverse parts of the country and deploying them to every nook and cranny of the country away from their homes facilitates national integration and development.”
Jonathan, who was represented by the deputy governor of Bauchi state, Alhaji Sagir Aminu Saleh, said the Scheme had attained remarkable milestones in its mission of national integration and development since inception over 40 years ago.
He urged the corps members to take advantage of the present programme being introduced under his administration Transformation Agenda which aimed to empower the youth to be self-reliant.
