NYSC veritable tool for national development – Abubakar

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has been described as a veritable tool for national cohesion and development.
Bauchi state Governor, Mohammed Abubakar, made this assertion yesterday during the swearing in ceremony of the 2018 Batch ‘B’ Stream II joint orientation course for corps members deployed to Bauchi and Gombe states held at Wailo Camp, Ganjuwa local government.
Represented by the state Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Liman Bello, the governor said in its over 45 years of existence, the scheme has remained an instrument for monitoring the youth and preparing them for future leadership roles.
“As leaders of tomorrow, you must be knowledgeable and well grounded in all aspects of our National life.
To achieve this, the orientation program is carefully fashioned to bring you in close contact with your fellow compatriots from different parts of the country and expose you to the culture and traditions of your host communities of service.
“This no doubt will strengthen and boost your innate sense of patriotism the result of which will translate to higher quality future leadership that will ensconce our nation on a higher pedestal among the comity of nations,” he added.
The governor therefore promised that their efforts at reconstructing and rehabilitating camp structures and facilities will be sustained so as to create enabling atmosphere for the success of the program.
Earlier, the state coordinator of the NYSC, Afolayan James, explained that at the close of registration, a total of 1, 725 corps members consisting of 1, 071 males and 654 females were registered.
