Oba of Benin’s visit’ll enhance our unity – Obong of Calabar

 

The Obong of Calabar, His Eminence, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V, has said the visit of the Oba of Benin kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo Ewuare  II, to Efik kingdom would enhance the bond of unity existing between the Efik and Benin kingdoms.

The Obong, who spoke through his media and publicity chief, Otuekong  Francis Edet, said the Benin monarch is scheduled to arrive the ancient city of Calabar with his entourage Friday, January 10, and would be received with open arms at the Obong’s palace, Efanga Nsa, Calabar.

In a telephone chat with our reporter in Calabar, Thursday, he stated that the purpose of the Oba’s visit was to say ‘Thank You’ to the Calabar Monarch and his people and that the kingdom was very excited for the show of solidarity.

“The visit will enhance the cordial relationship that had existed between the two kingdoms in the past three hundred years and we are grateful for the show of solidarity and unity.

“Before his coronation, the Oba invited first class traditional leaders across the nation to witness his coronation. His Eminence, the Obong of Calabar and many members of the traditional rulers council were in Benin to honour the invitation. One year after, the Oba felt he should go around the country to say ‘thank you for honouring me .’
