Obasa lifts suspension of four lawmakers

The Lagos state House of Assembly Thursday lifted the indefinite suspension placed on two principal officers and two other members.

Announcing the lift of the suspension, which had generated no little controversy, the Speaker, Hon Mudashiru Obasa, disclosed at the start of plenary that the house leadership decided to yield to persuasion from stakeholders for the sake of peace.

Obasa said the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) and the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, called a meeting Tuesday to intervene in the crisis and directed that the House should reinstate the suspended lawmakers.

The affected lawmakers are Hon Olumuyiwa Jimoh, who was removed as Deputy Majority Leader; Hon.Rotimi Abiru who was removed as Chief Whip; Hon. Moshood Oshun and Hon.Raheem Adewale who were suspended.

However, the speaker was silent on whether the pardoned principal officers would be returned to their former positions or if they are to continue as floor members and chairmen of committees which they occupied prior to their suspension.

Their indefinite suspension was announced at the plenary of March 9 and the affected lawmakers and their staff had since then been denied access to the Assembly complex with their offices sealed up.

On Tuesday, the speaker and the four suspended lawmakers and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu held a meeting initiated by APC national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, at the latter’s residence at Bourdillon Street.

At the meeting, we learnt the suspended members were told to go and reconcile with the leadership of the house and ensure the house maintains peace.
