Obasanjo congratulates new Zimbabwean President

Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, yesterday congratulated the new President of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa, saying the country needs cooperation and support of all African countries.

Mnangagwa, the ousted Vice President, took over the mantle of leadership following resignation of President Robert Mugabe.

Obasanjo in his congratulatory letter to the new President made available to newsmen in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital, expressed his conviction that Mnangagwa would be an asset to the country.

In the letter presented by his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, the former president also expressed hope that the relationship between Nigeria and Zimbabwe would blossom under Mnangagwa.

The letter read in parts: “It is with profound delight and happiness that I convey my heartfelt congratulations on your appointment as the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe.

“As you assume the mantle of leadership of your great country, I have no doubt in my mind that you will execute the responsibilities of your office with the great political acumen that you are noted for.
