As preparation for Christmas and New Year festivities gets tougher, the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Anambra state command, has warned motorists against reckless driving saying it would not hesitate to prosecute violators of traffic rules and regulations.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Pascal A. Anigbo, who disclosed this on Tuesday, said the state sector commander, Andrew Kumapayi, equally advised vehicle owners and drivers to ensure their vehicles were well maintained, to avoid obstructing traffic in the event of a breakdown.
“The 2019 Operation Zero will commence from 18 December, 2019, and as expected, there will be massive increase in both Vehicular and Human movement. The Sector Commander, CC Andrew A. Kumapayi has directed all Unit Commanders and OC Outposts, to ensure full implementation of all the strategies put in place for a successful and hitch free traffic control operations during the Christmas and New Year festivities.
“The general public is consequently informed that, FRSC Anambra State will be partnering with other Sister Agencies and Volunteer Groups to ensure that gridlock at notable flash points are check mated. In the event of a Road Traffic Crash, road users are please requested to call the FRSC and State emergency Toll Free Numbers *122 and 112* respectively, for quick response,” he stated.
He identified some traffic flash points at seven areas to be monitored to include Awka, Onistha, Nnewi, Nteje, Ihiala, Igboukwu, and Oraifite.
