Obiano sets up committee to resolve Anambra communal land clash


Anambra state governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has set up a committee to look into the boundary dispute between Aguleri and Umueri in Anambra East Local Government Area (LGA).


The committee which shall be inaugurated on Tuesday, is to be headed by Air Vice Marshal Ben Chiobi as Chairman, with a Permanent Secretary, office of the Secretary to the State Government as Secretary.
Other 12 members of the committee include the LGA transition committee chairman, youth leaders and traditional rulers of both communities.


According to a statement from the Secretary to the State government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu, the committee’s terms of reference was to establish the immediate cause of the dispute between the two communities, that occurred on Saturday,  January 16, 2021.


They were equally charged to invite and interview the families that own the lands in dispute, as well as to establish the boundaries between Aguleri and Umueri.
It added that they would recommend other possible solutions to guarantee lasting peace in the area, and that they have three weeks to conclude the assignment.
