The governor of Edo state, Godwin Obaseki, has insisted that the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole was never attacked in the state as being alleged.

The governor also insisted that the national chairman of APC and former governor of Edo state should observe protocols while visiting the state.

The governor, who spoke through his special adviser on media, communication and public affairs, Crusoe Osagie, said the former governor never inform his office, Commissioner of Police or State Director of the Department of State Service (DSS) for security, while on visit to the state.

According to him, if the party chairman should do the needful while visiting the state there would be less acrimony.

The governor maintained that he has no knowledge of alleged attack on the residence of the APC National Chairman, stating that the report of the State Commissioner of Police, DanMallam Muhammed should be paramount more than any other report.

He called on government functionaries and political office holders to be circumspect in commenting on the allegations of attack against the former governor of the State.

The Chief Press Secretary to the APC national Chairman, Mr. Simon Ebegbulamu and the APC National Publicity secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu had on Sunday issued statements alleging attack on the APC national chairman at his residence in Benin city on Saturday.

The duo had accused the officials of the state governor of carrying out the attack against the National Chairman.
However, the Edo State Police Commissioner has come up out to debunk the allegations.

In his statement, he said, “To the best of my knowledge, no one had access to the house of the National Chairman. When he came into the State, we beefed up security around him, from his house to the Oba’s palace, from there to the airport before he left for Abuja.

“Let me use this medium to warn troublemakers that Edo State is very peaceful and calm. The State is the most peaceful in the South-South Region of Nigeria. We will do everything according to the law to ensure that the peace the people of Edo State enjoy is not truncated and any attempt by anyone to cause trouble in the State will be resisted with maximum force.”

The governors aide in a statement issued in Abuja, said the Commissioner of Police was in the best position to give report on attack on the national chairman of APC and the security situation in Edo State and he has done so dispassionately.

According to him, the allegations of attack came as a result of mindset of some person to cause problem in the state.
He alleged that the APC National Chairman had threatened to make Edo State ungovernable.

His words, “Oshiomhole has intention of escalating security situation in Edo State as he has said in the past that he was going to make the state ungovernable.

“When he wants to come to the state, he does not inform the governor, the police or the DSS but the . As a former governor he ought to be informing the governor and each time he is coming into the state.

“The commissioner of Police has declared the state peaceful but Oshiomhole and his cohorts were bent on making it ungovernable. But this l know the governor and would not allow.

“Oshiomhole as a former governor should undermine the capacity and integrity of the Police unless otherwise he is looking for anarchy in the state.”

It would be recalled that the Edo State governorship slated for next year has pitched the state governor against the APC National Chairman.

Its being alleged that the APC National Chairman wants to stop the second term reelection of the incumbent governor.
