Offa robbery: Police nab 12, recover victims’ phones, others

The Nigeria Police, yesterday said its officers and men have arrested 12 additional suspects in connection with the Offa bank robbery and multiple killing at a police station in Offa, Kwara state, on April 5, 2018.

Giving an update to journalists on the investigation at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Jimoh Moshood, said the suspects include Adegoke Shogo, 29; said to be the mastermind of the robbery.

He said Shogo, who is a native of Offa, was found to be a drug baron and an Indian hemp dealer in Offa.

“According to Intelligence gathered from cultivated and reliable informant, he is alleged to be one of the sponsors of the bank robbery and attack on the Police station in Offa.”

The spokesperson said one of the suspects, Kayode Opadokun, 35; a native of Offa, was found to have been released from prison three months ago after reportedly serving only eight months of his sentence for armed robbery.

According to him, a Barrette pistol and six rounds of live ammunition were recovered from Opadokun, a notorious armed robber and confirmed gang member of the Offa bank robbers.

Also arrested include Aminu Ibrahim, 18, who was arrested in Ilorin; Kazeem Abdulrasheed, 36; who was arrested in Offa, and Azeez Abdullahi, 27; also arrested in Offa

Others include Alexander Reuben, 39; and Jimoh Isa, 28; both arrested in Lagos on April 11, as well as Azeez Salawudeen, 20; and Adewale Popoola, 22; who were arrested in Offa, with the victim’s phone and SIM cards.

Others are, Adetoyese Muftau, 23; who was arrested in Ibadan, Oyo state; Richard Buba Terry, 23; and Peter Jaba Kuunfa, 25; both arrested in Ilorin, Kwara state.

Moshood said exhibits recovered from the suspects include: two Beretta Pistols; 20 rounds of live ammunition; four phones and SIM cards belonging to victims, some of whom were killed during the attack
