Official: National stadium Lagos ready for use soon – Minister’s aide

Kola Daniel, media aide to Minister of youth and sports development Chief Sunday Dare has disclosed that efforts are on the refurbishment of the National stadium Surulere Lagos.

The National stadium Surulere Lagos which hosted the 1980 Africa Cup of Nations won by the then Green Eagles was built in 1961 with a setting capacity of 85,000 before it was renovated in
1972 with the capacity reduced to 55,000 seaters.

The capacity was further reduced to 45,000 in 1999.

According to a tweet from the media aide of the Minister who displayed pictures on the progress work done so far, “Work is still ongoing at the Surulere National Stadium, Lagos. Engineers on site are opstimistic that the stadium will soon wear a complete new look.

“Materials have arrived, the project managers have been working hard to see that this project is completed as soon as possible.”

Work is ongoing at both MKO Abiola National stadium Abuja and that of Lagos.
