Comrade Chinedu Ogah, the House of Representatives member representing Ezza South/Ikwo federal constituency in the National Assembly, in this article by  AMARACHUKWU EGWUAGHA in Abakaliki examines his scorecard within 18 months in office. 

Ogah as first timer in Reps

Honorable Chinedu Ogah is a first timer in the National Assembly, he is representing Ezza South/ Ikwo federal constituency of Ebonyi state.

A native of Item Amagu Ikwo in Ikwo local government area of the state, he was the state Youth leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and after words, joined All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ogah for the first time contested the Rep position in 2019 and the first election he ever vied for in the state, he clinched the position. Not minding that he is a new comer in the lawmaking business of representing a constituency, the consensus amongst his constituents  is that he has done noble to the extent that one can authoritatively say he would not lose any election irrespective of the position.

Ogah Commissions 59 projects

Chinedu Ogah from Monday 28 to 30th June 2021 embarked on the business of commissioning the projects he executed in his constituency within 18months in the office.

He was inaugurated as a member of the 9th National Assembly in November 2019 and ever since has been doing so much for his people. His constituents said they are not surprised that he has used every opportunity he got to empower his people through his foundation, Chiboy foundation.

However, Mr Ogah in this few days inaugurated the following projects: 31 boreholes, transformers, bridges, cottage hospitals among others valued at N3.5 billion in his constituency..

In one of the inauguration tours at Ezza South the lawmaker said, “My mission in the National Assembly was to impact positively on the lives of his people.

“Since my inauguration in November19, 2019, we have attracted many employments in federal civil service for youths from this area and about 35 students are beneficiaries of our post graduate scholarship project pursuing Master’s degree programmes.

“We are committed to providing democracy dividends, our commitment is to empower our people, provide life changing development infrastructures,”

According to the lawmaker, the inaugurated mini bridges at Amajin in Ameka and Umunwangu/Ikwuato Idembia linking Ezza South and Ikwo Local Government Area, were designed to ease the sufferings of people of the two communities.

“The Umunwangu/Ikwuato Idembia River which was built with bamboos had claimed many lives and hindered easy evacuation of farm produce. The construction of the bridge has brought relief to the people.

“The bridge constructed at the cost of N390 million will enhance movement of people and easy evacuation of farm produce.

“We are going to construct the road to link the Southern part of the state,” Ogah said.

He explained that the most of the projects was constructed in the wards was aimed at providing safe and affordable life to the people.

Ogah also noted that he facilitated the employment of many youths from Ezza South into the Federal Civil service while no fewer than 35 post graduate students from the area were pursuing Master’s degree programmes in different Nigerian universities under his sponsorship.

 Ogah celebrates 45 years

Inauguration of these projects is not only aimed at celebrating his 18month in office, it is also activities lined up for the celebration of his 45 years of age.

Rep Ogah did not embark on this inauguration spray alone, he was accompanied by some members of the National Assembly, especially, the Speaker of House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila who was represented by Mr. Abdulkadir Babayali.

At the programme, the Speaker applauded Ogah for delivering democracy dividends to his constituents.

He  said “the lawmaker has demonstrated uncommon love, uncommon will, and uncommon wisdom in attracting the projects which he said would enhance the living conditions of the people”, adding that “Ogah demonstrated effective representation through the provision of many life-changing infrastructures and other development projects for the people.”

The Speaker however urged the people to encourage the lawmaker to do more with their support, charging the constituents to protect the amenities sited in their areas against vandalism.

Gbajabiamila extolled the leadership virtues of Ogah, noting that “the projects initiated and executed for the benefit of the people were demonstrations of democracy in action.”

He said that the All Progressives Congress (APC), led by President Muhammadu Buhari, would continue to provide developmental projects in line with the party’s manifesto.

“We are impressed by the many infrastructural development projects attracted to better the lives of the people of this constituency.

“The projects no doubt have a direct bearing on the lives of the people and we urge you to keep supporting your son who has demonstrated uncommon love for his people,” Gbajabiamila said.

Ezza South traditional rulers

The traditional ruler of Ezama Community in Ezza South LGA of Ebonyi State who doubles as Chairman of Ebonyi State and Southeast traditional Rulers Council, HRH Ezeogo Charles Mkpuma and other traditional Rulers in Ezza South LGA in appreciating the lawmaker endorsed him as their sole candidate in 2023.

The royal fathers described Comrade Ogah  as most vibrant leader and best federal legislature from the State, and said his performance within his eighteen months in office has surpassed that of his predecessors who spent five and twelve years at NASS respectively.

“You are a vibrant leader who knows the need of your people. What you achieved in Ezza South alone within this short period of time is more than what our sons from Ezza South achieved within twelve years and the other one who spent five years at the same federal House of Representative.

“On behalf of traditional rulers and people of Ezza south, we are giving you our support and blessings to remain in House of Representative until when you want to aspire for higher positions.
