OGP: Kano mulls desk office in MDAs

Kano state government has expressed its readiness to establish desk office in all the ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) to ensure effective implementation of Open Government Partnership order (OGP).
Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje gave the assurance while inaugurating the Steering Committee and launch of State Action Plan on Open Government Partnership at the Government House on Friday.
The Governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Usman Alhaji, said the state government was committed to ensuring full implementation of the OGP principles in its reform agenda.
He said all MDAs and other public institutions in the state would be mandated to establish an office and appoint suitably trained officials as Open Government and Access to Information Officers to ensure effective implementation of the OGP order.
He, however, said the recent signing of the Executive Order of Open Government Partnership (OGP) by the governor was part of renewed efforts in the fight against corruption, in addition to improving transparency and accountability in governance.
“Kano state joined the Open Government Partnership to deepen Institutional Reforms, fight corruption, grant citizens’ right of access to public records and information and to enable citizens to effectively participate in governance.
“The joining of the OGP is in line with the federal government’s efforts toward the fight against corruption; hence the decision of Ganduje to be very committed in the OGP project.
“We also made it clear that our administration will be up and doing to making sure that our government is transparent, accountable and committed to fight against corruption and other societal illegal,” he said.
Blueprint Weekend reports that the 17-member OGP Steering Committee is co-chaired by the state chairman of Anti-corruption Commission, Mr.
Muhuyi Magaji, and Hajiya Halima Ben Umar, a member of one of the civil society organisations in the state
