Ogun: Armed robbers engage police in gun battle, one arrested





The men of the Ogun State in the early hours of Saturday 15th of May, 2021 engaged some dare devil armed robbers in gun battle at Ipamesan area of Sango, in Ado-Odo Ota Local area of the state.


This was revealed by the police public relations officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi in a press statement made available to Blueprint Sunday.


According to Oyeyemi, the incident occurred following a distress call received by the DPO, Sango Ota divisional headquarters, that robbers were operating at Ipamesan area, and that they had already buggled a warehouse in the area.


The statement further reads, “Upon the distress call, the DPO, CSP Godwin Idehai, quickly mobilized his patrol team, and moved to the scene. On sighting the policemen, the robbers, who had snatched two vehicles from different locations, took to flight, but were hotly chased by the policemen. 


“On getting to Joju area, and realising the determination of the patrol team to subdue them, they decided to engage the policemen in gun battle.


“But due to the superior firepower of the policemen, they abandoned the two robbed vehicles, a Lexus RS 330 with registration number FKJ 691 FW snatched from one Dosumu Kazeem, and a Toyota Matrix with registration number MUS 835 FW snatched from one Ibrahim Lateef, and took to their heels. 


“The team pursued them andone of the robbers, later identified as Henry Obe was arrested in the process.”


It was later discovered, that the have shot a guard attached to a warehouse own by one Yinka Oduwale, before breaking into the said warehouse and looted it. The guard was rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead.


Items recovered from them includes, one long gun, 41 laptops, 2DVD players, 2 phones, 3 tablets gadgets, one Lexus RS 330 with registration number FKJ 691 FW and Toyota Matrix with registration number MUS 835 FW.


The commissioner of police, CP Edward Awolowo Ajogun, has ordered the immediate of the suspect to state criminal investigation and intelligence department for discreet investigation. 


He also directed the crack detectives, to go after the remaining members of the gang, with the view to bring them to justice within the shortest possible period.
