Ogun decontaminates secretariat, urges banks, others to do same

The Ogun state government has decontaminated the premises of the state secretariat, in Oke-Mosan Abeokuta, the state capital, in readiness for the partial resumption of workers’ today.

The decontamination exercise was carried out on Saturday by officials of the state Ministry of Environment, to make the working environment safe for the civil servants directed to resume for duties from Monday.

The state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, had ordered the workers to work from their respective homes, as part of measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease in the state.

But Governor Abiodun in his statewide broadcast to commemorate Workers’ Day, on Friday, announced that government businesses would be open for just 30 per cent of the workers to resume in various ministries, agencies and parastatals.

The government also urged corporate organizations, such as banks, industries, large and small scale enterprises in the State to decontaminate their premises ahead of resumption of some business activities.

The Commissioner of Environment, Hon Abiodun Abudu-Balogun, in a statement signed in Abeokuta, said the decontamination became imperative because of large volume of customers and visitors that throng their premises for transactions as well as complementing the state government’s efforts at flattening the curve of the pandemic in the State.

Abudu-Balogun said the private sector would complete the circle of war against COVID-19 by decontaminating their premises to help stop the spread of the pandemic.
