Ogun: Extend TETFUND to private institutions, Educationist tells FG

A stakeholder in the education sector has called on the federal government to extend TETFUND and its other financial support program to private institutions in the country in order to save the sector from total collapse.

Making the call weekend, the founder, Harvarde College of Science, Business and Management Studies, Adebayo Oluwatosin, stated that private institutions in the country serves as rescue and alternative for Nigerian youth to get access to uninterrupted tertiary education.

Oluwatosin added that although the flow of learning in public institutions in the country has been disrupted due to strikes by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and sister unions, privately owned institutions have been able to rescue the deteriorating standards of education in Nigeria.

The educationist noted that despite the support of private institutions to the country’s education sector in ensuring that Nigeria’s education system meets up with global standards, funding has been a major challenge.

He commended the federal government for allowing entrepreneurs to venture into education development, saying that the step is currently helping the country to reduce the number of youth seeking admission overseas.
