Ogun junior tennis championship serves off October 6

Ogun State Tennis Association has concluded plans to organise Junior Tennis Championship, drawing participants, in both genders, from across the state.

The competition will be hosted by the association in conjunction with ADESBA between October 6 and 8, 2022 at the Green Courts, Abeokuta Sports Club, Ibara Housing Estate, Abeokuta.

According to press statement signed and released by the association’s media officer, Olusegun Olukoga, participants will be selected from all the blocs in the state, which will feature in under 12, 14 and 16 categories. 

Forty Eight (48) players are expected to feature during the competition with two boys and two girls from each category as each zone will produce twelve players in all the categories. 

According to the statement, Chairman of the Association, Arc. Adeleke Bada, said, the championship is to discover talents and further develop tennis at the grassroots level. 

“More tennis talents are rising from the state and the championship is one of the many initiatives of the association to identify talents and encourage wellness in the young citizens of the state; which in the end, will have both long-term and short-term positive benefits on the children,” he said.

Tennis Head coach, Kehinde Ijaola, maintained that, the association is passionately committed to developing talented, professional young tennis players in the state. 

Meanwhile, the association will on Monday, September 5, 2022 commence working visit to the zones. 

The team, to be led by the tennis association chairman, Arc. Adeleke Bada, will be discussing modalities of the competition with divisional sports officers and coaches.

The visit is expected to end on Thursday, September 8, 2022.
