Ogun: Make 40% appointees youth, APC youths appeal beckons Abiodun

The youth wing of the Ogun state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Thursday appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun to make 40 percent of his political appointees youths.

Their appeal is coming following the governor’s declaration that women would constitute 50 per cent of his cabinet.

The youths made the appeal during the Annual General Meeting of the APC youth wing, held at the at the party secretariat in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.

The convener of the meeting, Rasheed Ariboto, said the appointment would serve a reward for the youths for their unflinching support to the Governor Abiodun and the party at the last election.

Ariboto, who lamented youths marginalisation and neglect during the last administration of Senator Ibikunle Amosun, urged Governor Abiodun not to tow the same line, insisting that the state had innovative and politically experienced youths to form part of the governor’s cabinet.

The youths also expressed their confidence in Governor Abiodun’s administration and passed a vote of confidence on him, denying assumptions that he was slow.

They noted instead that the governor has so far exceeded expectations despite his short time in office.

“Governor Dapo Abiodun recently made it known that his administration cabinet will be shared with women of the state taking up to 50 percent of his cabinet members. This laudable development has since then left the youths of the state wandering in their thoughts.

“Are we, youths, considered as an apex body of this government? Is this government actually interested in paying back the youths who stood firmly behind it during turbulent times? Are the youths now considered as an alien, a misfit, or being surplus to requirement in governance?”

“Ogun state is blessed with innovative and politically experienced youths who are well capable of being commissioners, Senior Special Assistants, Special Assistants and Local Government liaison officers to the governor on various levels.

“However, the governor is making the youths of the state assume that he is planning to walk in the shoes of his predecessor who made the youths suffer so much despite their involvement in putting him at the helm of the state affairs.”
