Ogun: Mother, 3 kids disappear over refusal to worship deity

The Onabanjo family of Agbon compound in Ijebu Ode, Ogun state, has raised the alarm over the disappearance of a mother of three and her children over their refusal to worship the Agemo deity.

The spokesperson of the family, Chief Oyewole Onabanjo, in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, alleged that the mother of three, Oyindamola Onabanjo ran away from the community alongside her three children when the family requested that her children be made to go through some traditional rites of ‘purification process” as the chosen children of Agemo.

He said her only daughter Rodia was also billed for circumcision as part of the purification process before they fled from the community.

Onabanjo pleaded with Nigerians to avail him with the useful information about the whereabouts of them and his son, Yusuf Oluwasegun, who is Oyindamola’s husband.

He alleged that their absent at this year’s Agemo festival has caused a big problem for the family and the entire community.

The statement read: “Chief Oyewole Onabanjo is still contending with 10 months of grief after his son’s wife, Mrs  Oyindamola Funmilola Onabanjo, and her three children: Ridwanullai, Rodia and Yusuf, suddenly disappeared from their home.

“Chief Oyewole Onabanjo is from Agbon compound in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun state where “AGEMO” Deity is practiced /worshipped and female genital mutilation is performed.

“Apart from the unknown whereabouts of both mother and children, the boys were expected to be presented to the shrine while their daughter has to go through mandatory circumcision before July 5th, 2019 scheduled for AGEMO festival.

“Their absent from this year 2019 festival has caused a big problem for the family and entire community.  Even my own son (Mr. Yusuf Oluwasegun Onabanjo), who is also Oyindamola Funmilola Onabanjo’s husband, has since remained incommunicado since he disappeared’’.
