Ogun Police arrest driver, one other for killing their customer

Men of the Ogun state Police Command have arrested a 30-year-old man, Ogungbemi Gbenga for allegedly killing a trader, Mrs Evelyn Ebere after robbing her of the sum of N400,000.

Ogungbemi, was arrested alongside his accomplice, Olobamoyo Tosin in Sagamu Local government area of the state.

According to a statement by the Command’s spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, in Abeokuta Tuesday the duo were arrested following the sudden disappearance of the victim on Tuesday, March 10.

The family of the victim had reported the disappearance of Ebere to the Police and the case was transferred to Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Command.

Oyeyemi said, immediately the case was reported, the police swung into action and Ogungbemi, the driver of the victim was arrested.

On interrogation, Ogunbemi confessed that the woman contacted her to drive her to Ire-Ekiti where she intended to buy twenty six kegs of palm oil.

The suspect explained further that he was accompanied by his friend, Olobayomo Tosin on the journey.

He said: ” While on the road, they both decided to rob the woman of the money she wanted to use in purchasing the palm oil, consequent upon which they drove her into the bush along Shagamu-Benin expressway where they dispossessed her of N400,000.

“Since the deceased knew them very well being their regular customer, they decided to kill her and dumped her corpse in the bush.”

According to Oyeyemi, the remains of the victim had been recovered in the bush along Shagamu-Benin expressway and had been deposited at the General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson has ordered that the suspects be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction as soon as investigation is concluded.
