Ohakim, Araraume, others jostle for Uwajumogu’s seat

Less than one week after the death of the senator representing Imo North senatorial zone (Okigwe zone), Ben Uwajumogu, heavy weight politicians from the zone have indicated readiness to take part in a fresh election expected to hold in the next few weeks for replacement.

Our correspondent gathered that those at the forefront of the contest are former governor, Sir Ikedi Ohakim, who is heading the environmental committee of the state and a trusted loyalist of the Ihedioha administration.

The former governor was being  tipped as replacement to Chief Nnia Nwodo, who would soon  be leaving the Ohanaeze socio-cultural organisation leadership as his tenure expires soon.

Also, senator Godwin  Ifeanyi Araraume, who contested the governorship seat on the platform of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the last election, wants to re-launch himself to get back to political reckoning, especially now that his Supreme Court appeal against Governor Ihedioha is hanging in the balance.

Former senator, Athan Achonu, who was replaced by Uwajumogu in a re-run election after it was discovered that Accord Party (AP) logo did not appear on the ballot paper and who also took part in the last PDP governorship primary, wants to re-launch himself back to the Senate.

Professor Nnamdi Obiaraeri , a former commissioner and special adviser in the state who lost in the All Progressives Congress(APC) senatorial primary  to Uwajumogu and later to erstwhile governor, Rochas Okorocha’s  candidate in the Action Alliance(AA) now wants to contest  on his own.
