Ohakim: FCT High Court throws out Igwegbe’s suit, cites defectiveness

A Federal Capital Territory High Court has thrown out a lawsuit instituted by Chinyere Amuchiena Igwegbe, the ex-mistress of former Imo State governor, Ikedi Ohakim, seeking damages from the ex-governor over defamation of her character.

The suit was dismissed by Justice Halilu Yusuf for want of jurisdiction.

Blueprint recalls that Igwegbe had hinged her allegation on the ground that both Ohakim and one Chinedu Okpareke masterminded the spread of her nude video.

In his ruling, the Judge said the court process of the said lawsuit was defective, as it lacked both the signature of the said claimant and her lawyer.

Justice Yusuf held: “Having a writ of summons that is not duly signed therefore deprives the court of jurisdiction to hear the matter,”

Consequently, Justice Yusuf dismissed the suit.
