Kogi state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, yesterday expressed shock over the death of a great leader and former Senator, Salihu Ohize.
In a press statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mrs. Petra Akinti Onyegbule, in Lokoja, the governor described the demise of the former chairman of Okene Local government area as a “painful exit of a political icon who fought hard for the change we are enjoying in Nigeria and Kogi state today.”
He prayed for the repose of the soul of the departed and for the family, the State and the nation to bear the irreparable loss, saying the late Ohize would “forever be honoured in our minds for his selflessness, commitment to good governance and belief in fairness, justice and equity.”
He charged the Ebira nation and Kogi people in general to bond together in “this moment of great grief and irrecoverable loss,” urging the people to accept the will of God.
Bello said his administration would keep defending the ideals the late Ohize held which were development, progress and justice.
Ohize died in Abuja yesterday after a brief illness and has since been buried according to Islamic rites.
