Oil theft: Nigeria losing billions to individuals daily, ADP raises alarm

The national leadership of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) has cried out over what it described as mindless looting of oil revenue by private individuals who are mostly foreigners.

Addressing a press conference at its national secretariat, Wednesday in Abuja, the national chairman, Engr. Yusuf Yabagi, who narrated his experiences during a trip to United Kingdom and United State of America recently, adding that  international community were happy at the performance of his party at the last general elections.

According to the ADP national chairman, the federal government admitted that the nation was losing about $1.5 within six month to oil theft.

The chairman said: “most of the beneficiaries of the looting are not even Nigerians. So, why going to borrow when you can block the leakages?

He, however cautioned the government not to render the country bankrupt through “reckless borrowing.”

He called on Nigerian youths to rise up and challenge the government, “hold government accountable. People should ask questions because revenue accrue to the country is public money and not for one party or one person alone.

“I will like to urge President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to develop a deliberate policy that would translate the 2020 budget into meeting the yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians.

“The face-off between the federal government and Labour on minimum wage must be addressed with every sense of sincerity for a productive workforce.

“The government must also put in place palliatives as alternative to meeting the challenges of border closure.”

While responding to the reported request by the President that Kogi state should be given over N10 billion, the Engr. Yabagi said: “I don’t know who is advising Mr. President but I know they are not fair to him, to ask for N10 billion a month to the election in Kogi state is a day light robbery.”
