Worried by the influx of commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators in Ogun state following their ban in Lagos state, the Ogun state House of Assembly, Tuesday called for a synergy between security agencies to put in place proactive measures to checkmate impending crime and criminality that could be occasioned by the influx of the riders to the state.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon Olakunle Oluomo, who made the call at a plenary held at the assembly complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, also advocated for an inter-state collaboration between Lagos and Ogun states to address any danger that could arise as a result of the ban.
Oluomo while responding to the submissions of lawmakers, including Adegoke Adeyanju, Sikirat Ajibola and Wahab Haruna under personal explanation at the plenary also admonished residents of the state to be more security conscious in all their daily engagements.
The Speaker stated that putting in place a means of identification for riders became expedient to strengthen security operations, while ensuring sanity in the transport sector for the socio-economic prosperity as well as checkmating kidnapping in some parts of the state.
Oluomo also called on the state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, to as a matter of urgency, intervene in the plight of the people living in the border areas to checkmate the over-zealousness of security personnel, which had been inflicting untold hardships on business owners and residents.
The assembly also urged the leadership of the State Security Trust Fund to re-align the allocation of vehicles and other operational logistics to include all parts of the state to checkmate crimes and criminality.
Earlier, the lawmakers reported the cases of kidnappings and killings of innocent people by criminals as well as the plight of their constituents in the border towns due to the federal government’s directive on non-sales of petroleum products within 20km radius to the nation’s border.
The lawmakers noted that the directive had been preventing their people from getting petroleum products to power their generating sets and other machines due to the over-zealousness on the part of some security agents.
