Okada, KEKE NAPEP riders reject violence, votes buying

The new leadership of the Amalgamated Commercial Tricycles and Motorcycles Owners, Repairers and Riders Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN) has pledged to resist the temptations to indulge in any form of violence during the forthcoming general elections.


The group who elected their new leadership on Saturday in Abuja under a peaceful atmosphere also rule out the possibility of their members succumbing to any form of monetary inducement during the elections.


The group’s newly elected National President, Alhaji Adebayo Shamsudeen assured that his members have been sensitized on the need to avoid any act that would affect that the conduct of a free and fair general elections.


Shamsudeen defeated his co-contestent with 75 votes to 10 to emerged the new President.


He also expressed the group’s resolve to support the second term bid by President Muhammadu Buhari during the general election.


Justifying the group support, he said “In 2016 the Corp Marshal of the FRSC brought a proposal to abolish the use of motorcycles as a means of public transportation. It was the Minister of transportation Rotimi Amechi who graced one of our events that they would not outlaw the use of motorcycles, and that they should embrace us and tell us how to conduct ourselves properly. 


“That singular effort was responsible for the decision to support President Buhari. We felt there is the need to reciprocate the gesture. Buhari would end the era of corruption in Nigeria. We believe he would empower us and make Nigeria a better place for both our generation and future generation of Nigerians.”


Alhaji Musa Ishaku who served as Interim Chairman of the group expressed the group resolve to partner the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure the peaceful conduct of the general election.


He assured that the group would not heed to the call by Governor el-Rufai on Nigerians to resort to violence on the role of foreign observer missions.


He added: “Nobody is above the law. We won’t take such talks serious. As far as we are concerned, we cannot be party to all those kinds of violence. We would not allow our boys to be used when their children are abroad. We can’t be party to that. We are no more kids.”
