Oke Maria 2020: Revr Father, others feared dead in auto crash

No fewer than 10 persons including the Revr. Father of Lagere Catholic Church, Ile-Ife, have reportedly died in an auto crash that occurred along Eripa road, Otan-Ayegbaju in Boluwaduro Local Government Area of Osun state on Sunday. 

Those involved in the accident, it was gathered were returning from the annual Oke Maria pilgrimage in Otan Ayegbaju. 

It was learnt that the bus conveying the pilgrims lost control and rammed into a fence.

The pilgrimage that usually held between Saturday and Sunday, had thousands of worshippers gathered for prayers at the Oke Maria mountain located in Otan Ayegbaju.

The bus was said to have belonged to ST. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Lagere, Ile-Ife.

An eyewitness said about ten persons died in the accident.

FRSC officials were said to have arrived the scene and evacuated the accident victims from the bus with the help of residents of the community.

The victims were rushed to a hospital in the state.

But, the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) said three persons lost their lives in the accident. 

The FRCS spokesperson, Mrs Agnes Ogungbemi, said, “the accident claimed the lives of two male and one female while their corpse already deposited at the Lautech Teaching Hospital ,Osogbo.

“The remaining wounded victims have been taken to hospitals for treatment due to various degrees of injuries.

“The Vehicle lost control before ramming into a fense at the other side of the Iree/Eripa/Otan-Aigbaju/Ila expressway and later falling into a ditch.
