Okon hails Falconets

Super Falcons Coach Edwin Okon has given the Falconets the thumbs up for their gallant display against champions Germany in the final of the just concluded FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada.
Okon who led the Falconets to a semi final finish two years in Japan said the girls under the tutelage of Coach Peter Dedevbo  deserved to win the trophy but luck deserted them when they had the Germans at their mercy.
“Peter and the entire team have done really well by reaching the final against all expectation and the crisis that almost stopped them from participating in the tournament. I am impressed by the all round performance of the team and I commend them.
“They did not win the cup but they proved to be the best team of the tournament with Asisat Oshoala winning the best two  individual awards as the top scorer and best player respectively. They lost because they did not take their chances and the Germans capitalised on a mistake to win.
“Football is like that, most often the best team don’t always win. A team must be at alert and with full concentration all through a game. What happened is a big lesson to us as we shall try not to repeat the mistake ” he stated.
The Rivers Angels coach also expressed satisfaction with performance of the five Super Falcons players in the Silver winning Falconet team adding that they justified why they are in the senior team.
He said he would also look at the possibility of inviting some Falconet players who excelled at the world cup to the Super Falcons camp for the African Women Championship AWC in Namibia in October.
Asisat Oshoala, Uchechi Sunday, Mariam Ibrahim, Chiwendu Ihezuo and Yetunde Adeboyejo are Super Falcons player that won the silver with Falconet.
