Okon out to ambush Amazons

Rivers Angels’ head coach, Edwin Okon, has said his side will be out for an outright victory against Nasarawa Amazons tomorrow’s Nigeria Women’s Professional League (NWPL) champion of champions contest at the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja.
The challenge replaced the Super Six competition that determines the winners of the regular season.
The Lafia-based side finished top of NWPL Division A, while the 2013 Federation Cup winners topped Division B to pave the way for the titanic clash that will see the winners dethrone Delta Queens as Nigerian champions.
Okon said the clash offers his side another opportunity to reaffirm their superiority over their opponents whom his wards stopped in the final of the 2013 Federation Cup in Lagos.
“Our aim is to win to achieve our dream for a double. We’ve already won the Federation Cup title against same side and we’re determined to record another stunning win to be crowned the Nigerian champions.
“Nasarawa Amazons are known foes, so no matter how tough they come we’re going to unsettle them.
“We want to be double champions and Nasarawa Amazons can’t stop us. We have done our homework very well just waiting for the match day to unleash the arsenal on them.
“The champion of champions challenge is new and we want to go down in history as the maiden winners,” said the Super Falcons coach to supersport.com.
The champion of champions will officially signal the end of the 2012/13 NWPL season while the NWPL congress will use the occasion to decide the commencement date of the maiden 12-team 2013/14 Nigeria Women’s Premier League.
The Port Harcourt-based side arrived at Lokoja, Kogi state on Monday for tomorrow’s encounter.
