Okorocha’s hotel workers granted N5m bail

Workers of the Royal Spring Palm Hotel, Owerri, arrested and locked up last week when the Commissioner for Lands and Physical Planning, Enyinna Onuegbu, stormed the premises with security men have been granted bail on the condition that they will pay N5m each with their traditional ruler appending their signatures for them.

The list of the accused on the charge list included former Governor Rochas Okorocha’s SA on Political Matters, Hon. Steve Asimobi and 13 others.

After getting briefs from both the defence counsels and the state counsels, the Magistrate, B. U. Adikibe ruled that their bail application had been granted but they should meet the conditions before regaining their freedom.

Enyinna who had arrested the workers accepted the bail condition but did not hesitate to inform the magistrate that he had been getting threats from unknown persons since that incident took place and that if anything happen to, the persons granted bail should be held responsible.

The workers of the hotel owned by the erstwhile First Lady, Mrs Nkechi Okorocha, were in the hotel when the commissioner came in with security men and got arrested for occupying a place believed to be government property without permission.

Meanwhile, the immediate past governor of the state, Owele Rochas Okorocha was not arraigned afterwards.

Our correspondent gathered that the presidency and some governors were in touch with Governor Hope Uzodinma, so that the ex-governor would not be disgraced further.
