Omeje emerges Nsukka LG chairmanship candidate in PDP primary

Chief Patrick Omeje, the immediate past chairman of Nsukka Local Government was on Tuesday nominated unopposed as chairmanship candidate in People Democratic Party (PDP) primary.

With this victory, Omeje would be the candidate of the party in Nsukka LGA in the Feb. 29, LG election in Enugu State.

Announcing the result of the election in Nsukka on Tuesday the returning officer from PDP state secretariat, Mr Ikechukwu Agbo, thanked delegates for conducting themselves in orderly manner that made the election to be peaceful.

Agbo said, 325 delegates were accredited, 324 were valid votes while one was invalid.

The returning officer said Omeje scored 324 votes.

“On the power conferred on me as returning officer, I hereby declare Omeje as the chairmanship candidate of PDP in Nsukka LGA in the Feb. 29, LG election in Enugu State.

“I thank delegates and party members for orderly conduct that made the election peaceful, free and fair,” he said.

In an interview, Mr, Echezona Ugwu, who led officials from Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) that monitored the election, said he was impressed with the conduct of the election.

“The election is free and fair; I commend the Nsukka PDP for that,” he said.

In his acceptance speech, Omeje thanked the delegates for massively voting for him and said he would carry out more developmental projects in his second tenure.

“I am overwhelmed and humbled by this massive support from Nsukka PDP members,’’ he said.

The party’s candidate in the forthcoming LG election also expressed special appreciation to Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State and PDP stakeholders for finding him worthy to bear the party’s flag in the Feb. 29, LG poll.

According to our reporter, the primary was conducted under tight security by the police and other security agencies in the area to ward off miscreants after the torching of the PDP office at Nsukka last week.
