On Obasanjo (Yallaban Sokoto)

Obasanjo

In any political domain there is the king and there are the king’s men.

Political influence is a permanent feature in politics all over the world. Former US Presidents Bill Clinton Barak Obama are not godfathers but their influence is still pervasive in the US Democratic Party and in politics. Any attempt to erase the political influence of Nigeria’s former President Olusegun Obasanjo (Yallaban Sokot) GCFR from Nigerian politics and government policies will end up in futility.

Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state knows that Obasanjo will still be a needed course of study for him because Obasanjo is a global statesman whose contemporaries include Jimmy Carter 39th American President (1977-81), George Bush 41st President of US (1989-1993), former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher (1979-1990). Obasanjo was very active in the international mediation efforts in Angola, Burundi, Namibia, Mozambique and South Africa. He played a leading role in the establishment of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) and the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) designed to promote democracy and good governance.
