On Victoria Chimtex’s murder

According to the report, On Monday, 28th November, 2022, Mrs. Victoria Chimtex, the Labour Party (LP) woman leader in Manchok, Kaura local government area, Kaduna state was callously mowed down in cold blood by callous gunmen and left his husband severely injured receiving medical attention. This is nothing to write home about.

I could vividly recollect a piece written by me headlined: “2023 Election Campaigns: Admonitions to govt, youths” published in Punch newspaper of September 5, 2022. The crux of that article is mainly for the security operatives to be able to foil any sort of political violence, misdemeanor, and killings. It is quite unfortunate that my admonition was not given an ounce of consideration by the government.

The killing one’s contemporary, Yoruba will say, speaks to one in parables. A lot of politicians in those sides will have been engulfed in the trepidation of not wanting to lose their lives in the pursuit of their political career and ambition especially women with immense and unbridled interest in politics.

A reasonable question: Is the 2023 presidential election a long walk to freedom or a journey to the inception of unbelievable but lugubrious happenings? In fact, human lives are not secure in Nigeria to say the least.

In sum, we plead the conventional and unconventional security personnel to work hand in hand to nab and punish the murderer of Victoria, a workaholic, diligent and industrious woman.

I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved and the entire Labour Party at the national level which Peter Obi is their flag-bearer.

May God protect and uphold her household. May her soul rest in peace.
