Permit me a space in your widely read newspaper to draw the attention of Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola, over the poor execution of road rehabilitation from Zaria to Pambegua awarded to the Proportion Construction and Dredge Works Limited. The rehabilitation of the road which was awarded since 2017 has become an eyesore. It was reported that the contractor has collected over N1 billion for the rehabilitation but cannot cover up to 3 kilometers. Even from Zaria where the works commenced, one could notice depression and potholes on the rehabilitated portion of road.
The poor condition of road has led to the death of many people as it has become a death trap while men of underworld have taken over extorting or carrying their nefarious activities. The million naira questions are: is the Federal Ministry of Works aware of the level and quality of work being done? Does the company have the relevant technical experience to execute the contract? The federal comptroller of road or minister of works should visit the site. The road which contract period has since elapsed is nothing to write home about.
While similar road contracts awarded the same year with Zaria-Pambegua have since been completed, we are left with lamentations due to poor handling of the work. The Federal Ministry of Works and all concerned authorities like Governor Nasie El-Rufai of Kaduna state, Senator Suleiman Abdu Kwari and members of House of Representatives of the affected local governments should come to our aid.
