Ondo primary school teachers can become perm secs – Govt

The Ondo state government has approved that serving primary school teachers can now reach theLevel-16 status like their counterparts in the civil service.

This means they can be considered for the position of permanent secretary when such vacancy is opened.

The chairman, Ondo state Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Victor Olabimtan, disclosed this during his meeting with the head teachers across the three senatorial districts of the state.

The chairman, who distributed promotion letters to 2,111 teachers of which no fewer than 85 were of Grade Level 16, reiterated the government’s “genuine intention to create a conducive atmosphere for teaching.”

Olabimtan thanked Governor Akeredolu for providing UBEC counterpart funding which had hitherto been neglected for about five years thus paving the way for the massive reconstruction of schools, renovations as well as provision of furniture items.

The chairman, however, frowned upon the dwindling population of pupils in public schools despite the government’s efforts, saying teachers would henceforth be held responsible for any drop in school enrolment.

Olabimtan said the state government would not relent in its efforts to upgrade schools’ standard as well as their workforce.

He called on the education secretaries in the 18 local government areas not to hesitate to report any teacher found wanting in their duty post for possible sanction.

The state chairman of PTA, Alhaji Abimbola Omo-Oloja, in his response, commended Governor Akeredolu for his interest in lifting education from foundation.
