One in three women has experienced violence says NGO

Chief Executive Officer of Wildan Care Foundation Hajiya Zariyatu Abubakar, a Non-governmental organization in Gombe state said that one in three women worldwide have experienced violence from an intimate partner.

Hajiya Zariyatu stated this in a press statement to mark this year’s International Women’s day on Friday

He said: “Every two seconds a girl under the age of eighteen gets married, in every six minutes, girls are at risk of undergoing female genital mutilation and other gender based violence.

“Today is International Women’s Day 2019 campaign theme is “BalanceforBatter” a call-to-action for driving gender balance across the world and right now is a great and important time in history to do everything possible in order to forge a more gender-balanced society.

“Women have come a long way, yet there’s still more to be achieved. From grassroots activism to worldwide action, we are entering an exciting period of history where the world expects balance.

“Today we’re not just celebrating strong women everywhere, but anyone who supports, advocates, and works towards gender equality and the fair treatment of women and girls.

“I congratulate women in Nigeria and around the world on the occasion of this year’s International Women’s Day. The capacity of a woman is virtually limitless. I hope our Nation will turn towards the right statistics and engage competencies of our women in nation building.
