One killed, several others injured in Taraba Assembly rerun

One person was on Saturday killed and several others injured as violence erupted in Ussa local government area of Taraba state during the supplementary election for the Ussa state constituency.

The Vice Chairman of Ussa local government area Mr Joshua Rikupki, who confirmed this ugly development to journalists, said political thugs were responsible for the violence that claimed one live.

Rikupki who condemned the violence urged security agencies to make sure those behind the unfortunate development are brought to book.

He also called on politicians to see politics as service to the people, not a call to war.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has declared the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Mr Dominic Bukuni as winner of the Taraba state House of Assembly supplementary election for Ardo Kola state constituency held on Saturday.

Bukuni scored a total votes of 22,583 to beat the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Mr Aliyu Muhammed who polled eight 19,408 votes.
