One missing, 8 injured as Ebonyi communities clash over mineral-rich land

A 54-year-old man from Amata, Akpoha community has been reported missing with eight others from same community injured  as Ezeke-Amasiri community clashed with Akpoha.

The two neighbouring Amata-Akpoha and Ezeke- Amasiri are both communities in Afikpo North local government area of Ebonyi state.

Both brother communities were said to be having a land dispute over a rich mineral land in the area.

Wading into the problem, chairperson of the council, Obiageri Oko Enyim, condemned Amata-Akpoha community for brutally attacking their neighbours.

She directed security agencies to arrest and prosecute perpetrators of the dastardly act to serve as deterrent to others.

Enyim spoke during an emergency peace and security meeting she convened at the council hall in Afikpo to address the issue with a view to ending the dispute.

She appealed to the two communities to sustain the spirit of brotherhood that has existed between them for generations, calling on the residents to desist from taking laws into their hands no matter the provocation as government will ensure that justice is not only done but seen to have been done.

The council boss also directed that nobody should enter the disputed land for any reason till the matter is amicably resolved.

Coordinator of Amasiri Development Centre, Mrs. Ngozichika Ezeugo and her Amoha counterpart, Surv Theodore Chikwendu Ihite, applauded the council chairman for her quick intervention in the matter and implored their kinsmen to embrace peace for sustainable development in the area.

Divisional Police Officer, Livinus Nwenyim, said the police in conjunction with DSS were working assiduously to bring peace to the two communities.
