One year after, Dapchi community still in shock, tears; begs FG to rescue Leah

Muslims and Christians in Dapchi community where 110 students of Government Girls Science Technical College Dapchi in Yobe state were
abducted have held a combine prayer session, urging the federal government to fulfill its promise made on Leah Sharibu’s release.

Both Leah and other students were kidnapped by Boko Haram on February 19, 2018.

The Chairman of the girls’ parent association, Bashir Alhaji Manzo disclosed this to Blueprint when our correspondent visited the community on Tuesday, the day abduction of the school girls is being commemorated.

“We gathered at Leah’s family house to first pray for her protection
and to also plead with federal government to fulfill its promise made
to us, few months ago in respect to Leah Sharibu.”

“Our gathering here is to show concern to the family, we fasted and prayed collectively for our daughter Leah who is still in captive”.

The Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, while leading federal
government delegation to Dapchi told us, ‘very soon she will regain her freedom’.  We thought within one week, we will see her again, but look at today (Tuesday, February 19, 2019), its already one year and she is still in captive. We beg the federal government to listen to our cry,” he said.

Leah’s Aunt, Mrs. Hyelakumi Manasseh, who spoke hopelessly in tears,
said: “let those at the leadership put themselves into our shoes, they will know the kind of pain we went through for the past one year.
Federal government is our hope we do not know anyone that will help
us,” she said.

Her Pastor, Rev. Musa Ibrahim of ECWA Church Dapchi, also called on the
federal government to listen to the cry of the poor parents to do all the possible to return Leah who he said has over-stayed, to her parents

Blueprint sought for the mother of Leah, Mrs. Rebecca Sharibu but was told she traveled to see her husband at his new base.
